<itunes:summary>Talk to The Mojo Fins and you’ll get to know a band in love with music, rather than the celebrity it can bring, their devotion to the art inspired by the likes of Elliott Smith, Tortoise and The Shins. Listen to their album 'The Sound That I Still Hear' co-produced at Brighton’s Red Room studio with colleague Stuart Troop, and you’ll hear a body of work composed with painstaking care and attention to detail, coruscating guitars, intricate rhythms and driving bass bound together by the unifying force of melody, that most primary of musical elements so often neglected when substance is sidelined for style. Watch as the guys’ heart-felt live performances light up stage after stage, face after face from the front of the audience to the back – then you’ll see how much this means.

Big thanks to everyone who came along on Saturday to our gig at the Pavilion theatre.

Not bad, eh!? The Beautiful Word and Shona Foster were both fantastic - really, really enjoyed both sets. The whole night ran very smoothly (thanks to all of the people responsible for that) and it was a real pleasure to play to such a fine audience who delivered animal noises, tissues and cheers on cue. Nice one.

Here’s a sneaky peak of one of our new tracks called ‘The Spell’ which was recorded live at the the gig.

We will be getting on with some more songwriting over the next couple of months, then look forward stepping things up in 2010: recording album no.2 with a top notch producer, getting on the road and spreading the Mojo’s sound across the UK and rocking as many summer festivals as we can.

Onwards and upwards!

“The Beautiful Word are a quintet set for the top in the world of mystery pop. And why not claim the throne of a genre they invented? Born in Jan 2007 front girls Emily and Megan began singing harmonies for each other’s tunes - and the tinkly pretty little songs hushed even the rowdiest of open mic’s.

Hey guys, thanks to everyone who braved the drizzle and made it to the Queen’s Head stage to see our Glastonbury debut. it was an amazing experience and great to hear so much positive feedback after the show. We all had an excellent weekend, especially once the weather got friendlier. It was a shame we missed Spinal Tap as we were rocking Worthy FM with a live session and interview, but it was great to be featured on a bill with so many other top gigs: Fleet Foxes, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Bon Iver and Bat for Lashes to name a few of our highlights. Check out the photos on this site, and please join in and post your photos and comments if you were there too. thanks to all involved in making the weekend a success for us. roll on Glastonbury 2010…

“…New single ‘In The Script’ nods to John Fogerty in lyric but forges its own path of semi-folk pop with up-tempo beat employing more key changes than a Westlife CD, but the discourse that risks its easy-listening credentials succeeds in exposing the band’s strengths, particularly agile guitar work…”

“The stellar chime pop instincts of the Sundays, the careering melodic disjointedness of the Go-Betweens, the sadcore sophistication of Red House Painters all in one band? Truly. Brighton’s The Mojo Fins are a remarkable proposition, and this is a desert island disc of a debut.”
9/10 - Rock Sound Magazine

“… The Fins breathe the same kind of melodious air as bands like Keane – polished, accomplished and catchy without resorting to curious hair and silly trousers to get them noticed. Recent Q Music Emerging Talent finalists, they’re back with In The Script, a new single continuing their admirable brace of recent releases. This is adetermined band whose only real angle (in a facile world where people describing music in magazines usually demand such a thing) is that they’re really good at making nice tunes - their mojo is definitely working.”

www.brightonsource.co.uk

“In centuries gone by before the age of the modern man when we fashioned buffalo fur around our groinal regions and lived in caves we probably didn’t find much time to revel in the magnificence that the world beholds and the joy it would bring us. Therefore a band such as The Mojo Fins probably wouldn’t have had much success in the music business especially since their sound is so far away from anything close to primitive.

‘In The Script’ is the second single taken from their debut album ‘The Sound That I Still Hear’. It’s a bold but gorgeous well honed track that has spine tingling qualities. It’s refreshing to hear such pure music that for a change doesn’t rely on distortion and a megalomaniac for a front man to get the message across, not that I think there’s anything wrong with that it’s just tiresome when every Tom, Dick and Harry has the same vision.

‘In The Script’ is anything but a soft touch though it still manages the rawness that is needed but it’s put across in a different way. The drumming is creatively disjointed as are the many decedent melodies that are layered on a knife edge, never completely seeming to repeat themselves but somehow invitingly similar. Vocals are the icing on the cake too, stuck somewhere between Thom Yorke and the chubby one from Keane they are quite mesmerising at times offering a very pleasant listen.”

“Its spellbinding harmonies run over their constantly pleasing blend of pop/rock and laid back acoustic work. New single ‘Always Now’ is an absolute pearl and latter tracks ‘Final Correspondence’ and the brilliantly performed ‘Trick Of Light’ will no doubt bring the band to stereos nationwide.”
